My Hard Drives
This is mostly for my own personal reference, but read on if interested.
In use:
- 8 1TB drives
- Setup in four 1TB raid 1 mirrors, this is in my main file server. Two for my movies, one for my shows, and one for everything else.
- 2 500GB drives
- An external 500GB raid 1 mirror for essential backup.
- 1 320GB drive
- The system drive for my laptop / main workstation.
- 1 250GB drive
- Storage drive for my original xbox.
- 1 200GB drive
- Storage drive on my gaming machine.
- 1 100GB drive
- Portable storage drive, mainly just to take to peoples houses if I need to pick up some info.
- 2 80GB drives
- One is the system drive on my gaming machine, the other is the system drive on my LAMP server.
- 1 40GB drive
- The system drive in the main file server
- 1 20GB drive
- The hard drive in my xbox 360
Not in use(functional):
- 3 500GB drives, 2 320GB drives, 2 250GB drive, 1 120GB drive, 1 60GB drive, 3 20GB drives
- Just not in user for whatever reason, but tested and working.
Not in use(defunct):
- 2 250GB drives, 1 200GB drive, 1 80GB drive, 1 40GB drive
- None of these drives work. I just haven’t gotten around to properly disposing of them. Anyone know how to do that?
In summary:
- Total accessible useable space:
- 5,510GB
- Total possible useable space (does not include dead space / mirroring):
- 12,900GB
- Total dead space
- 820GB
What does the future hold?
Right now my only plans include adding another terabyte to the file server, and backing up the entire file server on hard drives which will be kept in a safety deposit box at an undisclosed bank (A general thank you to my jerk friend who came up with this expensive idea, it is likely that I would be scolded if I don’t mention that this was not initially my plan.)
